Everyone and their dog seems to be coughing their guts up at the moment, or sniffling, or finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning, even though they turned in for the night at 9pm.

The secular view of things is that everyone ‘has the flu’, or something similar. But the spiritual view of things tells us that something else, or something additional, is behind all the flus, colds and general fatigue and ‘unwellness’ that God is sending down to the world at the moment.

Here’s my view: the closer we get to Moshiach actually coming, and the geula actually happening, the more the world is going to start filling up with an amazing spiritual light of truth and clarity, what I’m going to call NiBIRUR.

The more of this NiBIRUR fills the world, the more of this spiritual light that starts to come down the pipe, the more the human body is going to suffer and breakdown, at least until the owner of the human body starts doing some heavy-duty teshuva.

Why is this?

Over on my spiritual self-help website, and in my books like Talk to God and Fix Your Health, I write a lot about the connections between body, mind & emotions, and the soul, and how they all affect each other, especially when it comes to mental and physical health issues.

On this blog, I tend to talk mostly about the spiritual side of life, but sometimes, like in this post, the contrast between the stuff I write here and the stuff I write on spiritual self-help starts to blur.

In a nutshell, the way God has built the human body (which remember was initially meant to be a body of pure light, but only got covered with skin after the sin of Adam) is like this:

  • The physical body is ‘animated’ by energy, or Divine light, that has been mapped in the secular world as the energy pathways or meridians used in things like Chinese Medicine.
  • When the body’s energy pathways are flowing and unblocked, a person feels good and is in good physical health. When they are blocked, stagnating, unbalanced or weak, this can lead to spiritual, emotional & mental and then physical health problems.
  • Nothing but nothing stuffs the meridians up more than negative emotions and bad character traits.

So now, let’s return to the more ‘spiritual’ side of things to see what’s going on right now.

More spiritual light is coming down to the world as we get closer to Moshiach, and this process has been occurring big time since 2012.

As that spiritual light (aka NiBIRUR) hits planet earth, it’s impacting every human being at each level of their physical body, their mind and emotions, and their soul.

Remember, the body is just the vessel for the real us, which is our souls.

As that light travels through the three parts of our soul, aka our Neshama (our Divine soul), then our Ruach (our ‘emotional’ soul) and our Nefesh (our ‘physical’ soul, which also provides the body its life force), it’s illuminating all the blocks and the obstacles that are preventing that Divine light from passing through freely.

Why is it doing that? In order to bring these issues and problems to our attention, and give us the clarity that something is out of order and needs to be changed, worked on, prayed about and fixed.

The main way to remove all these blocks and obstacles (i.e. bad middot and negative character traits) is via hitbodedut, or personal prayer, where God will give you the clarity you need (NiBIRUR!) on what you actually need to do to achieve your spiritual Tikkun, or rectification.

Like, acknowledging your anger, for example, or admitting the loneliness that’s behind that midnight craving for chocolate cake, or the laziness or fear that’s stopping you from waking up on time in the mornings.

Once you do that work of teshuva and NiBIRUR, the block dissolves, the light can pass through and the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical malaise you developed as a result also disappears.

Now, what happens if you don’t do this work, as the light of NiBIRUR starts waxing in the world?

Simple: you go crazy and get sick.

Take a look around and you can see that happening pretty much everywhere at the moment.

Why is this happening? Because the extra Divine light that God is sending down to the world in preparation for the geula and the incredible spiritual awareness that’s going to be the hallmark of the time of the Moshiach is backing up in the system, and literally driving people bonkers.

Too much light = lots more illness – if we’re not doing the spiritual work required to dissolve the ‘blocks’ that are being caused by our bad middot and negative character traits.

That’s why even perfectly nice, normal, healthy people I knew 10 years ago seem to have morphed into completely crazy lunatics at this point in time with a billion chronic health issues:

Their bodies and minds simply can’t handle the increased light of NiBIRUR, because it’s just exacerbating the internal blocks and obstacles that were always there, but just not so obvious.

The solution is simple: acknowledge the problem, the flaw, the negative character trait, and ask God to help you uproot it. There is no other way of dealing with what’s going on right now and staying sane and healthy.

As time ticks on, the differences between those people who are clearing out their blocks and those people who aren’t is going to get more and more dramatically obvious, and there’s no pill in the world that’s going to be able to magic them away.

Recently, I’ve been having some correspondence with a reader about how easy it is to get swept up (and away…) with all the end of days stuff, to the point that you literally stop functioning in this world.

That happened to me for around long eight years, and while I do know that everything that happens is all from Hashem and all for the best, a part of me is still grinding an axe that my ‘pseudo-tzaddik’ spiritual guides didn’t step in and prevent me and my husband from getting too carried away.

Last year, one of my friends watched the video of Natan, the secular Israeli teen who died a clinical death, and who started sharing a whole bunch of stuff that he’d seen in Heaven, like foreign armies invading Israel in 2 days and Tel Aviv and Haifa getting nuked, God forbid.

My friend called me all het up, and asked me if she should quit her job and just spend her time making teshuva and preparing herself spiritually because, ya know, MOSHIACH IS COMING!!!!

And Moshiach is certainly coming, but the problem for me is that I quit my job, and my ‘regular’ life, and pretty much all I did was work on myself for eight years, which was all really good on the one hand, but on the other it’s still causing me some serious difficulties in my day-to-day finances and circumstances as Moshiach didn’t come in time to prevent me and my husband running out of cash.

This is what I told my friend last year:

“BH, work on yourself spiritually, do an hour of hitbodedut a day, make as much teshuva as you can – but don’t do anything you wouldn’t do if Moshiach wasn’t definitely coming tomorrow.”

Because the yetzer is very clever, and there are few tests of emuna bigger than turning your whole life around in anticipation of redemption, only for redemption not to show up on time and all your money to run out.

I always thought that me and my husband were pretty unique in how swept up we’d got in our fervent yearning for Moshiach. Part of why he struggled to go back to work so much was the idea that he was ‘selling out’ on the spiritual ideal of not being online, of guarding his eyes properly, of avoiding speaking to female clients. And on some level, he did sell out, but what could we do? Moshiach hadn’t shown up and we still had bills to pay and groceries to buy.

So, when a reader got in touch to tell me that she’d also recently got very swept up in all the stuff on the internet (and in other places) about the end of days and Moshiach, it made me very thoughtful. There are clearly many of us out there at the moment struggling with the balance between ‘this world’ and ‘the world to come’.

With her permission, here’s a little of what she shared:

“I am normally a very calm and rational person but I felt completely paralyzed with all of this [end of days / Moshiach stuff]. I knew I had uncovered the ultimate truth and everyone else was in total denial of the hectic state of the world and thought everything was normal.

“The Talking Bone of Ov” sounded like I was when I first heard about Nibiru and other end of days stuff. I was totally overboard freaked out and glued to the news… I caught myself before I went downhill totally but there was a low point for me when my behavior was scaring my husband a bit.

“Now, I have gotten out of the Armageddon outlook and decided to favor the rabbeim that talk about Hashem’s love for us instead…

“I feel so weird sometimes as if I am floating around, not grounded at all. I had myself 100% convinced that Moshiach would be here already and therefore assumed we wouldn’t have even celebrated Rosh Hashana this year…

“Now, I am just working on strengthening my connection with Hashem and really not going crazy about other things I’m reading on all of the geula sites other than Torah. It doesn’t serve a purpose for me anymore and I have to say it turned into something negative before when I was so deep into it as I forgot how to relate to the world and everyone around me. I walked around expecting doomsday every moment and couldn’t deal with fellow frum Jews walking around as if everything was normal. My friends were planning simchas and I couldn’t fathom them actually working out to be normal simchas. I was sort of pitying them in their oblivion. The yetzer hara at its best.

“Getting myself normalized has been a huge struggle as I don’t want to go the other way. I want my emuna to be stronger than ever and I want to approach life calmly, knowing Hashem, like always, is in charge of it all.

“It’s not a bad thing that I am into the geula – that in itself is wonderful – problem is that I drove head first right into it and I couldn’t properly relate to reality and people in the same way afterwards. That took me far away from the personal geula that we all need to do within ourselves.

“There is a Moshiach element in all of us, like the Divine spark that is part of us and like the bit of the original Adam inside us that unites us all as part of humanity… I am referring to an important part of life that is often forgotten about as we work for our daily bread. We have to look for and accept that this physical world is not all there is and elevate ourselves to actually look forward to a better world that is less and less physical and more and more spiritual.”

I can SO relate.

I got a lot of chizzuk from knowing I wasn’t the only ‘crazy’ in town who was so serious about Moshiach coming I actually made the spiritual work of preparing for Moshiach my main job for eight years. (Clearly, I’m not saying I finished.)

It’s difficult for me to know where I’m really holding these days, as while my Yiddishkeit is definitely more real, more compassionate and more grounded, it’s also more accepting of ‘the real world’. My husband is back at work, back online. I accepted my daughters need to find their own way and choose their own wardrobes. Two week’s ago, I even re-did my CV for the first time in 8 years, with the vague notion that perhaps I should stop writing such spiritual blogs and books, and get a ‘real’ job writing marketing material for some hi-tech start-up.

I’m still really stuck on that last one, as REALLY, I just want the books I’ve written to start selling in their millions, and for me to solve my cash flow problem that way.

Moshiach is definitely coming. Just I’m really not sure what I’m meant to be doing with myself now until he actually shows up. But it’s nice to know I’m not the only one wrestling with that question.

It’s amazing how all these ‘breathless’ geula bloggers have stayed so quiet about Rabbi Berland, aka Eliezer ben Etia.

I’ve been expecting the geula imminently for around 12 years now. And over that time I’ve been bombarded with hundreds of exciting messages about the end of the world, many BREAKING NEWS!!! moments when it really did look like that might be happening, plus thousands upon thousands of predictions, guesses, pundit pieces and others.

After 12 years (!) of all that, I’ve come to rely on only one thing as having any true credibility:

Messages from true Tzaddikim.

And that’s about it.

It’s not that I don’t think there isn’t value in many of the other podcasts, posts, lessons and YouTube videos from people I respect very highly like Rav Glazerson. It’s just that I know our true Tzaddikim have ruach hakodesh – they talk to God regularly, they are given access to spiritual secrets and deliberations that ordinary people like you and me just don’t have, however much Torah learning we have, or hitbodedut (personal prayer) we’re doing every week.

Also, as is known, our true Tzaddikim excel in changing God’s mind from ‘harsh justice’ to more merciful ways. When God wanted to blast the Jewish people out of existence following the sin of the Golden Calf, Moshe Rabbenu simply wouldn’t let him.

To put that scenario into modern terms, this is what would have played out on the internet just after the Golden Calf:

The autistics would have put out a statement with a ton of ‘oys’ and ‘voys’ about the terrible sin committed, and predict that 2/3 of the Jewish people (minimum) were about to be annihilated by God – and they’d be right!

Except, except, except….Moshe Rabbenu interceded (secretly…) and the picture changed drastically. Rav Glazerson would then have a Torah Code YouTube clearly showing that ‘Erev Rav’ and ‘Golden Calf’ intersected with ‘annihilation of the Jewish people’ and ‘saved by Moshe Rabbenu’.

Then, all the bloggers would have gone to work. Many would be screaming their lungs out about the imminent destruction of the Jewish people (while completely ignoring the role of the true Tzaddikim in avoiding that scenario). Many would be offering up their own take on WHY IT WAS HAPPENING (again, while completely ignoring what the true Tzaddikim were actually saying about it), some would ignore the whole situation completely, or come up with a conspiracy theory blaming Yasser Arafat for everything, and two would be telling the truth:

Namely, that there WAS a big decree of destruction against the Jewish people because of the sin they committed, but the Tzaddik of the generation, Moshe Rabbenu, cancelled it out with his prayers and self-sacrifice.

And of all the opinions and ‘fluff’ out there, only that last one is relevant, because it’s the only statement that’s really 100% true.

THE ONLY WARNINGS AND MESSAGES THAT MATTER COME FROM OUR TRUE TZADDIKIM

When Moshe Rabbenu later told his brother Aaron to run with the incense pan to the camp to stop the plague that had broken out, this was a clear example of the Tzaddik HaDor being very clued-in to what was a clear and present danger to the Jewish people, and what wasn’t, and also, crucially, WHY IT WAS HAPPENING.

Which brings me to the crux of this post. It’s been very interesting to me to see that every ‘alternative’ pronouncement of death and destruction, every ‘message’ predicting the future, every weird occurrence going on in the world, from strange weather to bizarre geophysical phenomenon is given reams of space in the Jewish blogosphere, while the messages from a number of huge Tzaddikim about what’s going on with Rav Berland – and its connection to the ongoing geula process – are being almost completely ignored.

You should know that Rav Glazerson has at least 12 videos on YouTube clearly pointing out that Rav Berland is completely innocent, being persecuted by the Erev Rav, and that his imprisonment is directly connected to geula and Moshiach coming.

I can think of one blog (maybe two…) that is bringing these videos to your attention, while I know of many other blogs who link to pretty much every OTHER video Rav Glazerson puts out that doesn’t talk directly about Rabbi Berland.

Why is this?

Even the autistics recently came out with a message stating clearly that Rabbi Berland was innocent and suffering for the sins of the generation. I waited to see if this would be publicized or mentioned by some of the blogs who believe the autistics are modern-day prophets – nothing, nada, nope.

Why not?

Rav Dov Kook and other of the nation’s leading Tzaddikim including Rav Chaim Dovid Stern and Rav Shalom Arush, have come out with statement after statement in support of Rav Berland, and making it clear that his persecution is directly linked to the geula process of the Jewish people.

When Rav Kook made a statement saying he could see a gezeira coming because of the mixed gender bathing in Tiveria a few months’ ago, many bloggers fell over themselves to report on it at length.

Yet when Rav Kook made the statement last week that all the supernatural fires hitting Israel were because of the suffering and persecution of Rabbi Berland, it was met with an industrial silence in the blogosphere.

Why was that?

SOOO many bloggers commented on the ‘Fire Intifada’, quoting this one and that one, and coming up with their own ideas of WHY it happened and WHO’S really behind it and WHAT TO DO about it. Yet when one of the leading Gedolei HaDor puts out a public statement clearly linking Rabbi Berland’s persecution by the Israeli government to these fires – no-one quoted it. No-one mentioned it.

Why not?

If the Torah codes and Rav Kook, and Rav David Abuchatzeira and Rav Chaim Dovid Stern, and the Milkman, and Rav Fish are good enough when it comes to all the other things we quote them about, then shouldn’t they also be believed when they’re telling us Rav Berland is innocent, his incarceration is directly connected to geula and the coming of Moshiach, and last week’s fires are directly connected to his terrible mistreatment at the hands of the Erev Rav?

And if they AREN’T good enough – then why quote them on other matters that also regularly contradict the mainstream view of things?

Why the double-standard?

Sure, I know there’s a lot of heretical psychos out there who love to insult and abuse people who write positively about Rabbi Berland (hi guys!)  As a blogger myself, I know that I also don’t want to accidentally mislead my readers or write something that’s incorrect.

But here’s the thing: people like Rav Dov Kook don’t have ‘opinions’ or cook up conspiracy theories about what they think may be going on in the world. Rav Kook, Rav Stern and others – they have ruach hakodesh. They know stuff because Hashem Himself is telling them.

Emunat Tzaddikim means that we believe in the words of our true Tzaddikim, even when that contradicts what we think we know (by reading all the latest conspiracy theories, opinion pieces and wild guesses masquerading as ‘prophecy’ on the web…)

I have no problem publicly supporting Rav Berland a million per cent, because that stance is not based on my own opinion, it’s daat Torah.

ALL THE REAL TZADDIKIM ARE BEHIND RABBI BERLAND 100%.

(I know there’s also a bunch of pseudo-tzaddikim talking against him, but that’s in order to maintain free will, and to make the test more difficult.)

So let’s sum up what I’m trying to get at:

  • Rabbi Berland, aka Eliezer ben Etia, is being publicly supported by our true Tzaddikim, including Rav Dov Kook, and Rav Chaim Dovid Stern.
  • These two Tzaddikim in particular have put out a number of explicit messages stating Rav Berland is the last test before Moshiach; anyone who talks against him won’t have a share in the geula; and the supernatural fires that happened last week are directly linked to his persecution and unjust incarceration.
  • Rabbi Berland also has a ton of Torah codes proving his innocence, support from the autistics saying he’s innocent, and has regularly predicted the future including the start of the Third Intifada. (There is a lot more to say on the subject of Rav Berland accurately predicting the future on many different occasions, but that’s a post for another occasion.)
  • WHY IS ALL THIS STUFF BEING IGNORED IN THE JEWISH BLOGOSPHERE, WHEN IT’S CLEARLY DIRECTLY RELATED TO GEULA AND THE FINAL TEST OF ‘BIRUR’, TO SEE WHO’S REALLY WITH HASHEM AND HIS TRUE TZADDIKIM?!?!?

Maybe someone can enlighten me.

UPDATE:

The autistics just put this out about the identity of Moshiach ben David, aka Eliezer ben Etia:

Of all of Rebbe Nachman’s tales, I have two favorites: The Cripple, and the Master of Prayer.

While it’s always something of a stretch to claim to be able to ‘understand’ Rebbe Nachman’s teachings, I always get so much chizzuk and inspiration from both of these stories.

Both are talking about what will be at the End of Days, before Moshiach comes, but while the Master of Prayer is phrased more in terms of global and national redemption, The Cripple is very, very personal.

It describes a cripple – a person who can’t walk, and who ends up being robbed in the forest by a bunch of bandits, and who then has to eat grass to survive. In the process of eating grass, the cripple finds a magic diamond (aka hitbodedut, or personal prayer), that shows him how he can heal his legs and regain his wealth from the bandits who robbed him.

So far so good, then the tale gets a little wild: The cripple hears the sun and moon discussing their problems, and the moon describes how the world is full of all these families of ‘demons’ – people who look like human beings, but who are actually missing something big, spiritually-speaking.

But the only way an outsider can tell who is a spiritually-corrupt ‘demon’ and who is really a human being is by looking at the demons’ feet:

The demons have chicken feet, not human feet. (‘Feet’ is a reference to emuna, and more particularly to bringing God down into the world by seeing Him in every single aspect of our lives.)

These demons have a king. They have jobs. And they have a mission in life, to keep people away from the true Tzaddik (aka Moshiach), who’s represented in the story by a big tree. If enough water would reach the tree, the demons would disappear and the world would be redeemed.

The demons make it their number one priority to keep people away from this tree. They dig ditches around it. They go around torturing people and making them suffer. And most importantly of all, the ‘talkers’ amongst the demon speak a lot of lashon hara about how believing in Tzaddikim is ‘cultish’; and how people don’t need to get close to the real Tzaddikim, they ‘just need God and their own (warped…) intelligence’.

To cut a long story short, there’s a wise man and his small band of followers who takes on the demons.

This wise man’s main weapons are prayer and perfect faith in Hashem – he advises his followers to accept whatever God decides for them, good or bad, and to not try to find ‘spiritual short-cuts’ involving sorcery and other things to try to solve their problems.

At the end of the story, due to the wise man’s great emuna and submission to God, the demons end up destroying themselves. Again, to cut a long story short, the ‘talkers’ amongst the demons start turning on the other demons (as opposed to the human beings) and this sparks off a civil war, which leads to a bunch of earthquakes and other natural disasters which finally cause the ditches around the tree to collapse, and the tree to be watered.

This brings Moshiach. Hooray!

Now, why am I telling you this?

You’ll recall that lashon hara, or speaking evilly of other people (even for supposedly ‘good’ reasons) is one of the biggest tell-tale traits of the Erev Rav. You’ll hopefully also recall (from THIS post) the basic rules of lashon hara which forbid us from pointing out people’s bad middot, publicly to other people.

The reason for this is simple: the people who speak lashon hara always justify the bad things they are saying about other people. As soon as you or I start speaking lashon hara about the people who are speaking lashon hara, we fall into that same trap – and in the words of the Cripple, it’s akin to using ‘sorcery’ and other demonic habits to try to solve our problems, instead of asking God to deal with it.

(That said, there ARE times that we can speak negatively about others in a public forum.)

So how does ‘good’ triumph, ultimately, if these demonic people are running around shooting their poisonous mouths off and nothing can be done to stop them?

Rebbe Nachman explains something wonderful: the talkers will destroy themselves.

One person with a huge lashon hara issue will pick a fight with another person who has a huge lashon hara issue, and all we have to do is stay out of it and watch them kill each other.

Genius!

Things are so, so mixed up at this time at the End of Days.

I know from my own experience it can be so darned tempting to weigh in on all the machloket, arguments and mud-slinging that’s going on all around us – all for the very best reasons, natch. But our voice is the voice of Jacob. Where ‘Esav-type’ people will use their words and voices to attack and destroy others, the authentic Jewish way is to use our voices to pray, and get God involved in solving our problems, and destroying all the bad, evil things that are permeating our world.

And if we do that, the demonic forces in the world will automatically destroy themselves; the tree will get watered, and Moshiach WILL come.

A little while ago, I bumped into an old friend of mine from the motherland, who used to be one of the most creative, deep, spiritual and loving people I think I’d ever met.

Of course, being ‘deep’ like that doesn’t come easy, especially in today’s world, and this person had gone through a lot of depressive periods and other forms of emotional turmoil.

Depression sucks, and is a very hard situation to accept and deal with. BUT – and it is a big but, depression also comes for a reason, a very good reason, and the key to resolving it is to accept what’s actually triggering it off in the first place, and to take steps to properly deal with it.

Depression is triggered by a couple of things:

  • Being made to feel worthless, invisible and completely uncared for and seen, by people who are very close to us, especially our parents and spouses. (This is linked to emotional neglect, which is not overtly abusive, but which can still kill a person’s soul stone-dead really, really fast.)
  • Being criticised, psychologically abused, blamed, ripped apart, disapproved of and controlled by people who are very close to us, especially our parents and spouses (This is linked to emotional abuse, aka psychological abuse, which IS overtly abusive, but usually rationalised away by the people it’s happening to.)

There’s just one problem:

Accepting that your mum / dad / sister / husband etc is the one making you feel like you want to just disappear out of the world for good, or like you don’t exist in the world, and that no-one really loves your or cares about you, is not easy.

In fact it’s usually so difficult to accept that your ‘nearest and dearest’ are literally making you emotionally ill and even suicidal with their emotionally neglectful and / or abusive behaviour, that most people prefer flat-out denial and Prozac.

Thankfully, the pharmaceutical companies and corrupt psychiatry have an alternative theory for depression that is much easier for most people to swallow: it’s just a chemical imbalance, silly!

Take this little pill, continue to carry on hanging out with your abusive family members, and don’t worry about a thing!

There’s just one problem with this theory (OK, I’m lying. There’s actually loads of problems with this theory, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself…) –

It’s completely false.

There’s not a single shred of scientific evidence to back up any claim that any emotional difficulty, from the most severe issues like schizophrenia, all the way through to depression, anxiety and ADHD are caused by any ‘chemical imbalances’.

(There’s so much to say about this issue, and I’ve written about it in more detail elsewhere.)

I was shocked when I saw my old acquaintance, because all the light in her eyes had disappeared. Even in her worst times, her eyes had shone with pain and sadness, but also with feeling, humanity and spiritual depth. That light now was gone. What had happened?

The answer was: Prozac.

After years of fighting off all the ‘helpful’ advice from other people about how to handle her depressions, she’d finally caved in and gone the drug route of dealing with the problem. It was just that much easier than acknowledging how dysfunctional her family life and relationships actually were.

Of course, she didn’t say that. All she said is that the anti-depressants were working a treat, and she felt great, really good, the best ever, actually. But the light was gone from her eyes, and I just couldn’t catch hold of my old friend any more in anything more than the most superficial way. Because the first thing that disappears when you take drugs – even prescribed drugs – is your connection to God, and your soul.

But that’s not all:

Whatever we don’t fix in ourselves simply gets passed on down the line, and compounded, for our kids. When people go emotionally AWOL because of the happy pills, they are no longer ‘there’ emotionally, for their neglect their nearest and dearest. And they can also become emotionally abusive to others, simply because they’ve lost their normal human sensitivity to what is appropriate behaviour.

As well as the spiritual coldness, my old friend had also developed a mocking manner of speaking to others, too. After five minutes of trying to talk to her, I really just wanted to run away as fast as my legs could carry me, because she made me feel really, really uncomfortable.

Ahhh, what a mess our world is.

When God is out of the picture, so much suffering and destruction occurs in the void. My old friend feels ‘great’, but she’s now treating other people like dirt, and is completely oblivious to that fact, because the pills she’s taking have dulled her true feelings, including her empathy and compassion.

Anti-depressants are meant to change how the brain works. That’s the whole point. Changing how the brain works is also a classical description of brain damage, and there we have the problem in a nutshell: anti-depressants cause brain damage, and change people’s personalities.

Not for the first time in my life, I saw how Prozac doesn’t just ‘disappear’ the external signs of depression, it also ‘disappears’ the essence of the person themselves.

But when God is in the picture, it can always come back.

We’re all so used to all the ‘birthpangs of Moshiach’ imagery that’s been tossed around for decades already, that I think many of us have forgotten what a birth is actually like.

Births are messy – blood, poop and I-don’t-know-what other gross things flying around the place.

They’re incredibly stressful – until the very last second when the baby pops out, everyone has a worry that it might not get there, God forbid, or that something could go wrong to harm the baby, or the mother.

They’re long, drawn out processes with a lot of stopping and starting – “I’m in labour!” – no, it’s just Braxton Hicks. “The contractions have started!” They’ve stopped again. “I’ve been having painful contractions for three weeks, already, I MUST be more than ½ cm dilated by now!!” etc etc

By the time the mother is ready to have the baby, she can’t move, can’t sleep, can’t really eat without getting terrible heartburn is and heartily SICK of the whole thing already – and that’s before the kid even makes it out into the real world.

Why am I telling you this?

Because I think a lot of us have a false image of what’s going to be going on in the world when Moshiach finally shows up. We think he’s going to call a press conference to announce he’s Moshiach, have a bunch of angels show up to coronate him, and then start riding around Jerusalem on his white donkey doing the ‘regal wave’ thing and magically disappearing all the problem people in our midst.

NOPE.

It’s not going to be like that at all. Moshiach is going to enter the world exhausted, after a long, difficult, messy and painful birth process where he’s been covered with every type of spiritual filth and cack you can imagine.

Remember, King David, the forbear of the Moshiach, was incorrectly considered to be a mamzer by his father and brothers for many long years, which is why he was sent out to tend the flocks and go and fight off lions and bears at just three years’ old.

Yishai was hoping something would eat him, and get rid of that ‘embarrassing’ family issue.

Remember, Tamar, the forbear of the Moshiach, was incorrectly accused of acting like harlot, when she got pregnant by Yehuda in a ‘libum’ arrangement to perpetuate her dead husband’s spiritual legacy (she had twins because she had two dead husbands to perpetuate, by that point.)

Can you imagine what Channel 2 would be saying about these people today?

“Chief Rabbi’s daughter admits to being a prostitute!!!!!!!”

“Rabbi Faker-so-so says: “This woman MUST face justice, and be burnt alive!!!”

“David’s own father shuns him: ‘The man is a MAMZER, and should be eaten by a lion!!!”

“EXCLUSIVE: David’s brothers admit: He forced the Prophet Shmuel to crown him at gunpoint!!! We’re scared for our lives!!!”

And so on, and so forth.

And then, all the armchair commentators would be having a field day.

“How can this man be KING when he’s clearly committed so many war crimes?”

“Yet another cover up by the religious establishment. King Amalek would NEVER have acted like this…”

“I can’t believe they let Tamar off the hook. She’s guilty as charged! Look at how she acted! If she wasn’t guilty, then why didn’t she just SAY THAT in court? I can’t believe these people.”

The Zohar curses anyone that views the Torah as ‘history’ with terrible curses. The Torah is a blueprint for living that’s as relevant for us today, in 2016, as it was 3,000 years’ ago.

So bearing that in mind, let me ask you something:

When the Egyptian establishment shoved Yosef HaTzaddik in prison for 12 years on the trumped-up charges of Potifar and his wife, who’s side would you have been on? I mean, Yosef went to prison!!!! For 12 years!!!! It doesn’t get more clear-cut than that, does it?

Or, when Moshe Rabbenu got shoved down a well in Midian for 12 years, who’s side would you have been on? I mean, he’s a wanted criminal in Egypt, a dangerous fugitive who killed an innocent man!!!!

Or, when Yaacov Avinu ran away from Laban, and then got chased down by him and all his men, who’s side would you have been on? I mean, WHY WAS HE RUNNING AWAY, if he hadn’t done anything wrong???? Why didn’t he stay in the country, with his wealth and his wives, if he wasn’t guilty of doing all the things that Laban was claiming????

What would Channel 2 (funded by the Rasha Corp, Inc) have to say about all these ‘so-called’ holy people?

What headlines would Arutz Sheva and the JPost be posting up? What comments would all the ‘experts’ reading about Yosef HaTzaddik from their armchairs in Eretz Yisrael be saying about him? What juicy quotes would they be squeezing out of the wicked Esav, about how terrible his brother Yaacov really was?

“Yes, he did exactly the same thing to me before he left – and that’s also why he ran away!” Esav would tell Channel 2, in an exclusive interview. “He stole my blessings! No one can trust him!”

And then, they’d wheel in one of Esav’s wives (with her face blurred and identify disguised) to pile on the ignominy.

People, the creation is renewed every day! King Shlomo told us there is nothing new under the sun.

Each of our biggest Tzaddikim was covered with spiritual filth, lies, controversy and scandal. It’s always been that way, and until Moshiach comes, it will continue to be that way.

In case you’re still unsure, here’s a few more ‘big’ Tzaddikim, many of whom were pegged as being the potential ‘Moshiach’ of their generation, and who were persecuted by the authorities of their time, and vilified by their fellow Jews, including even ‘religious’ people:

The Rashbi – Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai – who ran away from the Roman police and sat in a cave learning Torah for 12/13 years.

Rabbi Eliezer HaGadol – who was wrongly excommunicated by the Sanhedrin until a day before his death.

The Baal Shem Tov – excommunicated and vilified by even some of the biggest rabbis of his day.

The Baal HaTanya – Rabbi Shneur Zalman, founder of Chabad chassidim, who was persecuted and repeatedly slandered to the secular authorities (including by so-called ‘frum’ Jews…), resulting in him being chased all over the country, and spending time in prison.

Rebbe Nachman of Breslev – Another huge Chassidic master, the Shpola Zeide, took against Rebbe Nachman and started a slanderous campaign against him, that began so much of the controversy against him. Even his own uncle, another Chassidic Master Rabbi Baruch of Medzhiboz, opposed Rebbe Nachman for a time. (Can you imagine the juicy quotes Channel 2 would have tried to get out of him?)

Rabbi Natan Sternhartz – who took over from Rebbe Nachman, and who suffered the most terrible persecution, including being falsely accused of all sorts of things, and spending period of time in exile and imprisoned by the secular authorities. And who was behind this libelous, slanderous and even murderous campaign? (Because at one point, they dispatched a murderer to kill Rav Natan, but the man killed the wrong ‘Rav Natan’ and his family instead?) – RABBIS! And not just any rabbis, the most influential rabbis of their time, including the Savraner Rebbe.

History is simply repeating itself.

If you don’t know what happened before, you won’t know how to pass the test this time around. Again, the main point is that our biggest Tzaddikim have always been slandered, persecuted and chased by the evil people in our midst. That’s just how it is.

But how embarrassing, if you get up to Shemayim and they show you all the times you pinged on that horrible libel about Yosef HaTzaddik…or all the times you rushed to judgment against the ‘dangerous fugitive’ Moshe Rabbenu…or all the times when you could have stood up and defended King David, but instead you put the boot in, instead.

We read that stuff now, and OF COURSE we see how holy our Tzaddikim actually were, and how misguided (at best…) the people were who were persecuting them and slandering them.

But that’s the test.

Moshiach is not going to be ‘elected’ like a president.

Redemption is a birth process. It’s messy, filthy, stressful, confused and incredibly taxing, spiritually. There are people who are literally trying to kill our holy people, just like they’ve been doing all down history. Do you REALLY want to be a partner in their activities? Do you really want to end up where Korach ended up, or where Potifar’s wife got to, or even Absalom, King David’s son, who ended up in the lowest pit of Gehinnom?

So take a breath, and try to put the modern events unfolding right now in their proper, historical and spiritual context. As a people, we’ve been down this path before – many times – and always made the same mistake. If we really want Moshiach to happen, this time we need to really see what’s going on – all the lies and forgeries and slander that’s happening – and to pick the right side.

picture of a man holding a burning newspaper

When I first started hearing about the war of Gog and Magog, primarily from the autistics, more than a decade ago, I got very caught up in trying to figure out which country was ‘Magog’ and who was ‘Gog’, their leader.

It’s George Dubbya!

It’s the US!

It’s Putin and Red Russia!

It’s the European Union!

It’s the UN!

And so on and so forth.

I was like that with everything a decade ago, thinking that all the apocalyptical events and dramatic upheavals, and wars being banded about were mamash just occurring in the physical world.

When you live in Israel, which averages a small war approximately every two years, (terrorist attacks not included) it’s easy to see why.

But a few years’ ago, I started to shift away from the ‘war on the outside’ model, to realize that the war being fought by the Jewish people today is 100% internal. Gog and Magog is taking place inside of us, inside of our homes, inside our relationships, inside our communities.

Gog and Magog is a spiritual war to clarify who is on Hashem’s side, and committed to God and His torah, and who isn’t. And things are so mixed-up today that just having a beard and a rabbinic ordination, or a long skirt and a reputation for being an excellent speaker on the ‘rent a rabbanit’ circuit doesn’t prove anything, in terms of who you’re really fighting for.

Two hundred years’ ago, Rebbe Nachman wrote what’s referred to as the ‘Secret Scroll’, a scroll written in code, that described in detail what would occur before Moshiach came. That scroll has been a closely guarded secret for years, but before he died a little while back, Rav Eliezer Schick, ZTL, wrote a little about the Scroll’s contents in his book, Paolot HaTzaddik.

(You can see the full excerpt HERE).

Rav Shick revealed that there would be a terrible ‘war’ prosecuted against the nation’s leading Tzaddikim, as part of the preparations for Geula.

He wrote (my translation):

“[T]he wars of Gog and Magog will include all the machloket (disagreements) and the accusations that will be made against the true Tzaddikim, those who uncover the true will of Hashem Yitborach.

“There are people who want to eat [these Tzaddikim] alive, and who say every forbidden thing against them, and mock them a lot. And by doing this, they greatly distance Jewish souls from coming near to them, and also lengthen the duration of our bitter exile.

“And they are the brazen-faced of the generation, the people with the face of a dog [RL note: these are both code words for the Erev Rav], the soldiers of Gog and Magog, who conceal the truth, and they are the wicked people of the generation…

“It’s written in the Midrash (BeMidbar Rabba, יח:י): ‘He who is brazen-faced, and who is not ashamed in front of those who are bigger than him, and he who is a baal machloket (troublemaker), you’ll see that he is the wickedest of the wicked.”

“And if I would have known, my dear brother, what was written in the Megillat Setorim regarding these soldiers of Gog and Magog, and the people who cover over the truth, I would have fallen on my face from fear and dismay, about how this bitter exile would be lengthened by them….

If you help the true Tzaddikim, then you will bring the geula closer, and you will merit to have all the good that has been set aside for the soldiers of the House of David. [Referring to Moshiach].”

What can we take from this?

Here’s the main points Rebbe Nachman, via Rav Schick, seems to be telling us about the true war of Gog and Magog:

  • It’s spiritual. We don’t need to look for the soldiers of Gog and Magog in Russia, or on the Syrian border, because really, they’re all around us, in our homes and communities.
  • The ‘soldiers of Gog and Magog’ are the people who mock our true Tzaddikim and Torah scholars, and who persecute them, libel them, speak falsehoods against them and generally do anything they can to ‘eat them alive’.
  • They conceal the truth – i.e., they don’t just make innocent mistakes or wrong assumptions, they go all-out to tell lies and fabrications, and deliberately bury the truth in a web of lies, mockery and deceit.
  • They make trouble for other people.
  • They aren’t ashamed to challenge people with more mitzvot, middot, learning, knowledge or experience – which covers pretty much everything that’s happening online, and in the world today generally, one way or another.
  • They are the ‘brazen-faced’ of the generation – which is always a scriptural ‘code-word’ for the Erev Rav. (My book, Unlocking the Secret of the Erev Rav, contains a lot more information and background supporting this point. You can buy it on Amazon, and also on the Book Depository.)

So now, what can we learn about the ‘soldiers of the House of David’, i.e. the good guys that are going to bring Moshiach and help Am Yisrael get redeemed via their struggles and efforts?

They help the true Tzaddikim.

In World War II, Switzerland liked to make a big show of its famous ‘neutrality’. Really, they were in the Germans’ back pocket, and were happy to stow away as much stolen wealth, artworks and museum pieces as the Germans could send them, in return for being left alone and not officially invaded.

World War II showed Switzerland’s true moral colors, despite all its posturing of impartiality and ‘not taking sides’, and they weren’t pretty.

Today, I think many of us are trying to follow the Swiss template in the war of Gog and Magog, and to sit on the sidelines keeping out of the action and continuing to live the good life, while our Tzaddikim and the other good people in our midst get taken out by the ‘soldiers of Gog and Magog’.

  • Like the soldier who killed a terrorist in Hevron, and got sent to prison for 9 years to show how ‘just’ Israel is to the rest of the world…
  • Like the IDF Rabbi who is being hounded in the press for correctly stating what halacha is, and correctly quoting the Torah…
  • Like Rav Berland, and others, who have been hounded, persecuted, chased and vilified for years, by people who are anti-Torah and anti-God.

You want to be Switzerland?

Go right ahead – I’m sure that wherever those Swiss bankers ended up, there’s always room for more people to join them.

But if you want to really bring Moshiach and the geula, then you’re going to have to fight for them.

You’re going to have to throw your hat in the ring with the ‘soldiers of King David’, and start sticking up for God and his Torah and his Tzaddikim, even when it’s really uncomfortable or scary to do that.

The Vilna Gaon famously wrote about the Erev Rav that we have to split off from them, and not follow their path and their ways. And that if someone didn’t manage to do that – i.e., they wanted to continue being ‘Switzerland’, spiritually – then it would be better for them if they’d never been born.

All week, we’ve been seeing the latest episode of ‘Gog and Magog’ playing out in the world. On one side, Rav Berland, Rav Shalom Arush, Rav Dov Kook, Rav David Abuchatzeira and a bunch more Tzaddikim (both known and more ‘hidden’). On the other: the press, and the government, and the mocking, slanderous, emotionally-abusive people who like to jump in and comment on things they know nothing about.

I think it’s getting clearer and clearer which side is the ‘soldiers of Gog and Magog’ and which side is the ‘soldiers of King David’.

And the war is still going on.

If you want Moshiach and redemption, help our true Tzaddikim! Get up and be counted. Don’t let the soldiers of Gog and Magog completely dominate the battlefield.

There’s big things at stake here. ‘Switzerland’ can’t exist in a world that’s only truth. But remember, the main weapon of a Jew is prayer. If it’s too scary to take on the crazy lunatics in the world, then at least start praying for the good guys to win, or give some tzedaka to the people who are waging the war on our behalf.

Start saying Tikkun HaKlali. Start talking to God every day. Start rooting out the ‘soldiers of Gog and Magog’ that are hiding out inside every single one of us. Do your bit!

And if you – and me, and as many other people as possible out there in the world – do that, then good will win out sooner rather than later, Moshiach will come now, and the war of Gog and Magog will finally be over.

Once you start to dig a little deeper, past the superficial, God-less way most of the world sees life and the events occurring within us and around us, so many things start to fall into place in an awe-inspiring way.

Most days, I have at least one moment when I think to myself: God is a genius!

The wisdom in creation is so awe-inspiring, and nowhere more so than in the area of human health. As I’ve been piecing together how things appear to be working, health-wise, it’s given me more and more appreciation for Yiddishkeit, and also for Breslev, because Rebbe Nachman set so much of this stuff down even 200 years’ ago, just we didn’t know what it was we were being told.

(OK: I didn’t know what it was we were being told – I’m sure the Breslev Tzaddikim haven’t had that problem, and are still so far ahead of the game it’s scary.)

I’m not pretending I know how it all fits together 100%, because I don’t. But I’m still trying to share what I’m learning as I’m going along, as it’s helping me so much to get a handle on so many of the challenges I’m dealing with in life, and I hope that it might also do that for other people.

So today’s slice of insight is this: why we are all going bonkers, and how it’s connected to working on our middot (isn’t everything?) plus climate change, plus geula and Moshiach.

First, some very basic background on how the human body works:

  • The human body is a bio-electric liquid crystal.

Physiologically, the human body conducts electricity like a liquid crystal. Every cell is polarized (i.e., it has a positively charged ‘end’ and a negatively charged ‘end’) and a great deal of the communication that happens within our bodies occurs using bioelectricity.

Think of it this way: when the cells change from being negatively or positively charged (or vice-versa) it’s like they flick a switch off or on – kind of like morse code – which signals different chemicals to be produced, different hormones to start coursing through the body, and different biological processes to begin or end.

  • Emotions and thoughts affect the body mamash like chemicals

You feel happy? That triggers a whole bunch of bio-electrical impulses and chemical responses within your body, that directly affect your PHYSICAL health, as well as your sense of wellbeing. Each emotion we feel triggers a different set of bio-electrical impulses and chemical responses, and the negative emotions and thoughts – if they’re chronic – can literally disrupt the healthy functioning of the body’s bio-electrical impulses, leading to ill-health and disease.

Negative emotions and thoughts can also LITERALLY change the way the brain is hardwired, leading to so-called ‘mental illnesses’, and physical health issues.

Here’s where we really start to get into the ‘God is a genius!’ stuff, because now that we know that God is using bio-electric impulses in our bodies to regulate our physical and mental health, we can also see that the more bad middot and negative emotions we have, the more mental and physical illnesses we will have to deal with.

Bad middot and negative emotions act as ‘blockages’ on the line, preventing the right messages from being passed on, skewing chemical transmission within the body by getting the lines crossed, and starting or stopping the internal processes necessary for human health in a very unhelpful way.

The more we work on uprooting our bad middot, and dealing with our negative emotions in the way God intended (which is NOT to just ignore them, go into denial or try to medicate them away) – the healthier we’ll be, body, mind and soul.

The more bad middot etc we have, the more ‘blockages’ and weaknesses we have in the bio-electric circuit that is the human body.

  • Electromagnetism can ALSO affect our thoughts, emotions and health from ‘the outside in’

So now, we hit another ‘God’s a genius!’ patch, because external sources of electromagnetism, energy and radiation can also affect our thoughts, emotions and health.

If the electromagnetism we’re experiencing from the outside world goes up or down – as it does all the time, as a function of the earth interacting with the different planets and stars God created in the universe – that will also spark off ‘bio-electrical’ signals inside of us to think, act or feel certain ways.

It’s like those days when ‘everyone’ feels inexplicably more down than usual, or more stressed, or more antsy, or more angry, or even, more giddily happy and optimistic.

What’s occurring is that God is manipulating our environment – with a Nibiru, or a solar storm, or a Haley’s comet, or a thinned-out atmosphere, or even with a microwave oven or an i-Phone – to program our bio-electric circuit to start experiencing a different set of feelings, emotions or thoughts.

This is what’s commonly known as a ‘ruach’ in our holy writings, and the phenomena is referred to by many of our sages. Eg, most of us have heard of a ‘ruach shtut’ or ‘spirit of madness’ that is described as somehow ‘entering’ people from the outside, causing them to act bonkers. This is what it’s talking about.

The ARIZAL once told his main student, Rav Chaim Vital, that in a few months’ time he was going to encounter a period of time when he’d feel extremely worthless and ‘bad’ about himself. The ARIZAL told his student: “It’s just a ruach that’s being sent down to the world! Don’t pay it any attention!”

And these different types of ruach are being sent down to planet earth all the time, as tests and measurements of character.

Which bring us to the next key point:

  • God is bringing all our bad middot to the fore at the moment, by way of atmospheric changes (including things like Nibiru); plus man-made sources of electro-magnetism including wi-fi, cell-phones and powerlines.

We’ve just hit the part where we can hopefully start to understand why so many people are literally starting to go bonkers.

It’s like this: When Moshiach and geula rolls around, we’re told that God will kill the yetzer hara, or evil inclination.

There’s also suggestions that anyone that isn’t ‘prepared’ spiritually for Moshiach will not make it into the time of redemption. And what’s the main preparation we need to make? We need to work on eradicating our bad middot, and upping our emuna, or belief in Hashem.

Now, we can see how all this starts to slot together (because like I mentioned, God is a genius.)

As covered in a previous post, the world is going to change physically when Moshiach comes (albeit these changes will roll out over time and they won’t be immediate). The atmosphere will change; the amount of energy we get from the sun and other planetary objects is going to change; the amount of electromagnetism rolling around the planet – and sparking off biological effects in the human body – is going to change.

If we still have bad middot ‘blocking’ our internal circuitry, our bodies literally won’t cope with these changes – they’ll be overwhelmed, flooded, backed-up, fried-out etc by all the increased energy, radiation and electromagnetism.

Instead of being able to harness the extra energetic input to live longer and healthier lives and to serve Hashem (and probably do some other ‘miraculous’ things, too) – it’s going to make us implode.

It’s not a ‘punishment’, it’s just a consequence of not doing the work to get our system ready, the way God has instructed us.

So now, what’s happening specifically today?

God is playing around with the atmosphere in a way that’s designed to ‘press’ as many bad middot buttons as possible, and to bring them out of hiding so we can deal with them properly, and uproot them.

That’s why there’s such heaping doses of things like despair, depression, anger, paranoia, fear, anxiety, guilt, hatred, worry etc etc going around.

God is creating a bio-electrical environment that’s perfectly designed to trigger those middot off, in anyone that has them.

Why is He doing this?

So that we can recognize the problem, and work on eradicating our bad middot ahead of Moshiach and geula, so that we’ll be able to cope with the enormous physiological (and spiritual…) changes that will occur at the period of time, and stay alive.

THERE’S JUST ONE PROBLEM:

So many of us are still not doing the work!

Instead of working on our emuna more, and including God more in our lives, and digging deeper to get to the real roots of our emotional, mental and physical illnesses, we’re buying all the God-less (and completely unproven, scientifically) pap about ‘chemical imbalances’ causing the problems; or pills and surgery being the answer to all our physical health woes.

(I go into this stuff a whole lot more in my books, especially Talk to God and Fix Your Health, which you can buy on Amazon and also on the Book Depository, so I’m not going to rehash it here.)

The basic idea is this: things like antidepressants turn off the warning lights – i.e. you don’t FEEL so bad any more, or so depressed, or so anxious – but really, the bioelectrical processes and blockages causing you to feel that way are STILL CONTINUING unchecked.

The block is literally still there in the liquid crystal that is your body, and hasn’t been dealt with. When Moshiach shows up, that’s going to be a huge problem.

But even if people aren’t trying to medicate their heightened emotional states away, they’re still not dealing with them properly.

(BH, I’ll cover how to deal with bad middot properly in a future post, but be reassured it’s really not so hard, as God is doing most of the work.)

Despite rising evidence to the contrary, they continue to insist that they’re NOT angry, or unhappy, or despairing, or obsessed with money and status, or trying harder and harder to control every little detail about their lives (because that’s what happens when God is out of the picture.)

And then, these blockages start to implode in a million different ways, manifesting as eating disorders, depression, rage fits, narcissism, and then on to physical illnesses too, like kidney stones (fear), gallbladder issues (hatred), liver problems (self-hatred and guilt), heart problems (anger) etc etc etc.

TO SUM ALL THIS STUFF UP:

God is using energetic forces in the world, like electromagnetism and radiation, to affect the ‘liquid crystal’ that is the human body, and to bring our attention to the fact that we all have a lot of bad middot that are mucking-up the way we’re meant to function, across all three levels of body, mind and soul.

Those forces could be the gravitational pull of a ‘Nibiru’, a solar flare, or even more prosaic things like i-Phones (which could also explain another dimension to WHY internet and i-Phones are having such a bad moral effect on so many people).

He’s doing that because He wants us to WORK ON FIXING OUR BAD MIDDOT, and learning more emuna.

If we do that, we’ll remove the energetic ‘blockages’ that our bad middot are creating in our bodies, and then we won’t implode when Moshiach shows up, and the world changes in some very dramatic physical, geological and spiritual ways.

Hopefully, we’ll talk some more about HOW to work on the bad middot, as it’s really the key to everything.

But in a nutshell, THAT’s why we’re all going bonkers.

A couple of weeks’ back, my husband told me that he’d heard rumors that another massive prayer rally was being organized in Hevron for the 4th of July (this Monday night).

At that time, I was a little puzzled: things had been pretty quiet in Israel for a good few months already, since the last time Rav Berland asked for a prayer rally in Hevron.

The following day after that prayer rally, there was the huge terrorist attack in Belgium – but things in Israel suddenly (and miraculously….) quietened down.

And it stayed quiet for months. Until a couple of weeks’ back when Arab terrorists shot up the café in Tel Aviv, killing four people.

Hmm.

Last week, a last minute message went around that they were holding an impromptu prayer gathering at the Kotel ahead of Rav Berland’s court hearing in South Africa, which would have hopefully seen the Rav returning back to Eretz Yisrael, bringing geula with him (as stated by a number of tzadikim and kabbalists, including Rav Dovid Kook).

Hmm. That’s strange, I thought to myself.

Why have a prayer gathering now, plus another one next week in Hevron, after the hearing?

A few days’ later, things are already in much clearer focus. The South African judge refused to free Rav Berland – and that same day 13 year old Hallel was stabbed to death by an Arab terrorist who broke into her home in Kiryat Arba and murdered her in her own bedroom.

You could literally feel the heaviness in the air after that news broke, because it was bad enough that it happened. More than bad enough. But what made it worse is that it felt like it’s all kicking off again.

A little later, there was another stabbing attack in Netanya, with two wounded.

Motzash, I found out the terrible news that there had been another shooting in the Har Hevron hills again, killing a father of 10 and badly wounding his wife, and also injuring two kids.

By this stage of the game, it seems like all we can do is pray for God to turn things around and have mercy on us, because it’s becoming clearer each day that the terror doesn’t stop because of anything the Government is doing to help us: it’s all spiritual.

When Am Yisrael makes more collective teshuva, the terror stops. When we backslide, it starts again.

The point is, that this time last week I really had no idea why Berland had called for a prayer rally tomorrow in Hevron. I mean, the terrorism stopped! It’s been quiet for months! Who’s going to show up, Monday? These were all the things that I thought.

Now, I can see yet again how the real Tzaddikim in our midst can literally predict the future. It seems obvious that Rav Berland knew that the terrorism was going to start again, and he prepared the ‘balm’ – i.e. the prayer rally – before the blow.

This whole year it’s been unchartered waters. On the one hand, the stage seemed set for Moshiach to show up at the beginning of the year. But as the days have turned into weeks and then months, and things don’t seem to have changed it’s hard to know what’s going on, or even to guess about what’s around the corner.

At least, for me.

But not for the first time, the events of the last few days have proven yet again that when you’re a Tzaddik of Rav Berland’s calibre, you really can predict the future. Just as the Rav stated there would be a third intifada when everything was quiet – and no-one listened – seems he knew the Arab violence would flare up again this week, too.

When someone has the sort of track record for accurately predicting the future that Rav Berland has, maybe we should start to listen him about other things, too? Like the fact that Moshiach is only going to come when we actually stop obsessing over things like Nibiru and start to focus on clearing up our bad middot instead?

Or, that the only reason he had to go into exile in such shameful circumstances was because there was an outstanding Heavenly decree giving Iran permission to nuke Eretz Yisrael, unless something was done pronto to change it?

Rav Berland left more than three years’ ago now.

Many people, including some of our leading kabbalists, have been telling us for more than year that Iran already has a nuclear weapon. Have you stopped to ask yourself what’s preventing them from using it, or why Iran’s nuclear bomb has stopped making front-page news recently, when it’s been a staple feature of Israeli news for the last decade or so?

Have you wondered WHY the arabs stopped trying to stab us for a few months, or why they haven’t started blowing up buses again, or using their tunnels, or sending rockets over from Gaza and Lebanon again?

What’s stopping them?

If you think it’s something the government or the army is doing, then you clearly don’t live in Israel.

Doesn’t it strike you as weird that the very same day the Rav’s return to Israel got pushed off again, the Arab terrorism kicked off again?

Our teshuva (or lack of it…)  is what’s making all the difference, together with the mesirut Nefesh of our Tzaddikim, like Rav Berland, who has been sitting in a dregs-of-the-earth prison in South Africa for the last three months just to atone for our sins, while people who should know better continue to slander him all over the internet.

It’s a strange world we live in, that when autistic Jews start predicting the end of the world and ‘death stars’ that we all sit up and listen, and give them maximum respect and attention. But that when a Gadol HaDor tells us that our lack of Teshuva, and the terrible things we’re doing online, is bringing down one harsh decree after another, forcing him into exile to try and fix the problem – no-one wants to know.

Waiiiit a minute: this man isn’t autistic!!! How could he possibly be able to predict the future just by learning Torah 24/7, sacrificing himself repeatedly for Am Yisrael, and taking on all sorts of terrible things upon himself, including being falsely accused and slandered all over the world?

But at this stage, Rav Berland’s track record is so much more compelling than the autistics, and also much more hopeful: Do Teshuva, and everything will turn out fine. And Teshuva doesn’t have to be a big deal, even: just look for the good in yourself and others, stop speaking badly about people, and instead, start talking to God every day.

And that way, Nibiru will stop being a problem. The Arabs will stop killing Jews. And we’ll finally get what we’re telling everyone we really want:

Moshiach, redemption and an end to the madness.

One day, a shiny new van drove up to the small hamlet of Yidville, and a very fit, muscular, tanned man in tennis whites stepped out, with a large statue under his arm.

He strolled over to one of the local parks, set his shiny, black statue up in the middle of one of the grassy areas, and began to casually toss a stone or two in its direction.

One of the friendlier residents of Yidville came over to say hello, and to ask him what he was doing.

“This?” replied the man, tossing another stone at the statue. “Man, this changed my life! Before I started doing this, I had all sorts of aches and pains, and I just couldn’t breathe good. But once I started doing this – well, all my problems cleared up, I grew five inches taller and I developed 28 inch biceps overnight!”

The Yid couldn’t help but be a little impressed, but was also a little puzzled:

How could throwing stones at a statue have so many health benefits?

As the man continued to toss his stones, he explained:

“It’s all about posture, man. And self-control. And balance. See this stone? It looks to you like I’m just tossing it around, casual-like. But really, I learned how to throw stones like this up a mountain in Tibet for five years. Once you learn how to throw the stone right, you’ll see how you just start to feel so darned great!”

Convinced, the yid started learning with the successful stranger how to properly throw stones to Marculis – purely for exercise reasons – and very soon, the stranger had opened his own ‘Throw a stone to Marculis’ studio in Yidville, and was selling branded clothing and a throw-a-stone-to-Marculis line of soft furnishings.

All was well, until a little while later another shiny new van drove up to Yidville and stopped in the centre of town.

A supermodel-type lady got out, tucked a lithe white statue under her arm, and strolled over the local park.

She’d heard about the success of the ‘Throw a stone to Marculis’ studio, and she wanted a piece of the action, too. Her exercise routine was called ‘Ba’al Peor’, and it involved regular rounds of colonic irrigation and other things too complicated for mere plebs to understand.

The people of Yidville crowded round, keen to learn what this latest innovation in holistic health would do for them.

“Laydees,” she drawled, “I used to be FAT!” A gasp erupted from the crowd. “And POOR!” another gasp. “And SOCIALLY INEPT!!!” Now, people were really shocked.

“But then, laydees, I discovered this ‘Ba’al Peor’ exercise routine, and it completely changed my life! I lost 40 lbs in a day and a half, I won the lottery, and then I started to make tons of friends, when I put out my ‘Ba’al Peor Holistic Healing’ home-play DVD. And now, for just $1000 a month, I’m willing to teach you how to access these AMAZING health benefits too!”

Well, that sounded like a deal that was just too good to turn up, so the laydees of Yidville eagerly signed up for ‘Ba’al Peor Flow’ classes, and happily subscribed to the ‘Ba’al Peor Living’ magazine, when the first edition came out just in time for Rosh Hashana.

Things settled back down in Yidville – everyone was happily congratulating each other on discovering their AMAZING exercise routines, which contained so much INCREDIBLE wisdom for living the good life, and kept them so busy they didn’t have time for their more traditional pursuits like praying or learning Torah.

But this stuff was so much more FUN!

The men happily compared the bulging biceps they’d earned from spending 10 hours a day throwing stones to Marculis, while the women couldn’t wait to try out the latest purge-and-cleanse recipe they’d just seen in Ba’al Peor Living. Man, this was the life!

A little while later, another shiny van drew up to Yidville, and yet another successful, spiritually-inclined wise person got out, this time with a bright red statue and a big packet of matches. He knew he had a tough sell on his hands, but he was the best in the business for a reason, and he’d promised the boss he wouldn’t come home until he had at least 50 people signed up for his new exercise class, called:

‘Burn your children for Moloch’.

As the locals crowded around, he made his pitch:

“Guys, this stuff is the most hard-core exercise class out there. It’s only for the best-of-the-best. A lot of people out there don’t get how burning your child for Moloch can help you develop abs of steel, get you inner peace, and triple your income in just eight minutes…”

Here, his voice dropped to a whisper, and he motioned his audience to lean in a little.

“You know why they don’t get it? Because they didn’t do their research, that’s why! They didn’t check this stuff out properly! They’re still stuck in their narrow-minded ways of doing things, and they’re scared to try new things in life! You know, throwing a stone to Marculis is for beginners. If you really want to transform your life, this is the exercise class for you!”

And to close the deal, the rep from ‘Burn your children for Moloch’ passed out some cute devotionary candles that had a really interesting smell, and a bumper sticker that bore the legend: “There is nothing wrong with playing with fire!”

Dear reader, you get to pick what happens next. Do the residents of Yidville:

  1. Vote to relocate their town to an ashram in India (purely for ‘health’ reasons)
  2. Come up with their own new exercise routine called ‘Kosher-Burn-Your-Children-For-Moloch’ – and get a rabbinic psak for it
  3. Make Teshuva and bring Moshiach and the rebuilt Beit HaMikdash
